Linda Collins, 29, Trainee Chartered Accountant at Armstrong Watson has received an award at the Northern Society of Chartered Accountants Business and Awards Dinner, which took place last Friday 16 October at Newcastle Civic Centre.

Linda was awarded the ‘Northern Society BASE Mentor of the Year Award’, over competition from the whole of the North of England, including Tyne and Wear, Cumbria and Teeside.

BASE is ICAEW’s National Business and Accounting competition for students in school or college aged 16-19. A unique and exciting experience, students are able to engage in a business challenge that enables them to develop key employability skills and understand what it’s like to be an ICAEW Chartered Accountant.

BASE is tremendously popular with schools but relies upon many Northern Society ICAEW members and ACA students who volunteer their time to act as a BASE Judge or to Mentor the teams. The award recognises their time, effort and skill at mentoring local school teams.

Linda joined Armstrong Watson as a trainee Accountant in 2012 and works mainly from the Fairview House Office as a senior member of the audit team, working closely with corporate clients.

Paul Dickson, Managing Partner commented:

‘We’re very proud that Linda has achieved this accolade, especially against competition from other regions. It’s testament to the work she has put in as part of the BASE Mentoring programme.

To achieve this alongside working towards becoming a fully qualified Chartered Accountant, while also supporting our clients in Cumbria is something to be proud of.

As a firm we’re committed to developing the next generation of talented individuals and Linda is a highly regarded and valued member of our team.’
