Richard Rose students Grace McLeod and Emma Watson are one step closer to raising the funds needed for their upcoming Nepal expedition after completing a week’s work experience at accountancy firm Armstrong Watson.

The two Richard Rose students spent a week at Armstrong Watson earlier this month gaining experience of the firm’s on-going data project. The work they carried out involved reviewing data to ensure it complied with certain quality criteria.

The girls put into practise valuable skills such as attention to detail and utilising IT skills in a variety of complex programmes and being in a busy workplace for a week, which will prove invaluable in the future when they are applying for jobs.

Grace and Emma are set to go to Nepal on 15 October, spending over two weeks in the country. The trip is run in conjunction with World Challenge, who provide educational expeditions in the developing world which teach life skills and expand minds outside the classroom.

There are 11 students from Richard Rose who will be taking the trip to Nepal. Working at Armstrong Watson to raise money is just the most recent activity in over two years of fundraising in order to finance the trip. Grace and Emma have done bag packing in supermarkets, abseiled the civic centre, climbed Snowdon, canoed Ullswater and held charity auction nights amongst other things.

Alan Johnston, Partner at Armstrong Watson commented:

‘Having Grace and Emma working on the data project for a week has not only aided one of our most important projects on-going at the moment, but has provided them with a unique opportunity to experience what it can be like to work for a leading accountancy firm. Their work has taught them many valuable skills which they will be able to utilise in their working lives. We’re happy to support their trip to Nepal, as we believe that investing in young people today brings us the brightest stars for the future world of business. We wish them both the very best of luck on their trip.’
