Trainee accountants Zoe Newsome, Lauren Cannar and Holly Heslop who are all employed by Armstrong Watson won the silver medal in the national final of the AAT Worldskills UK in London on 21 May. The competition, organised by the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT), showcases the accounting and team building skills of young professionals in the finance industry.
It is the fourth year in succession that a team from Armstrong Watson has made it through to the final. The firm has now earned the full set of medals having achieved the gold in 2008 and the bronze in 2009 and 2010.
“This is a massive triumph” said Sue Kirkham, HR Director at Armstrong Watson. “We are immensely proud of the trio’s achievement on this national platform. It is testament to their hard work, dedication and professionalism and the support they receive through our well-established accountancy training programme.”
David Mandle, Financial Training Manager at System Training, added "The three apprentices have done so well to achieve this silver award and like their employers, we are extremely proud at System Training of their success. They have proved to be excellent ambassadors to their employers, Armstrong Watson, and they provide tangible evidence as to the skills and knowledge that young apprentices can bring to a workplace. They certainly have a very bright future in the accountancy profession.”
The students are all currently Advanced Accounting Apprentices with System Training in Carlisle and working towards their Level 3 Diploma in Accounting through the AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians).
