Rhys Davies, Corporate Senior
Having gained an English Language Degree at Newcastle University, I joined the team in October 2011. Training for the ACA qualification helped me pursue my career goals by allowing me to further develop the skills I gained at University. Armstrong Watson supported and guided me throughout, offering useful learning and development advice during every step of the process.
A career in accountancy is never dull, as the day to day workload is varied and continues to challenge me. I now work directly with clients and help provide advice to a very wide portfolio of sectors. Working within a team I feel valued and I have a good peer group who support me. There is potential for progression within the firm, particularly through the Chartered Programme. As the work becomes more complex I’m embracing the additional responsibility. I would recommend the Chartered Programme at Armstrong Watson to any ambitious and motivated graduate trainee.
David Graham, VAT Consultant
I joined Armstrong Watson in 2008, initially working in our Kendal office preparing trader accounts. During my two years working in Kendal I was supported through my AAT qualification.
I moved to our Fairview House office in Carlisle in 2010 where I gained experience preparing company accounts and auditing, progressing to the role of Audit Senior whilst completing my ACA qualification.
In 2013, I was given the opportunity to progress my career and move into the tax team to become a dedicated VAT specialist. I was supported through my CTA qualification and in 2015 progressed to the role of VAT Consultant. As part of this role I spend my time working across all the firm’s offices where I have had the opportunity of working with some great colleagues on a diverse client base.
