Trainee Chartered Accountant Programme - what is it like?

As part of the ongoing series of blogs featuring our Trainee Chartered Accountants, we’ve asked Oliver Dyson for his experience so far. Oliver joined us in August 2015 and works out of our Skipton office on the Audit and Assurance team.

"After earning a degree in Accounting and Finance at Lancaster University I joined Armstrong Watson’s graduate scheme in September 2015. Training for the ACA qualification is helping me build on the expertise I gained at University by adding practical skills to my pre-existing knowledge. The support Armstrong Watson provides me has been invaluable in guiding me throughout my time here, offering useful learning and development advice during every step of the process. I’m finding the firm is very supportive of my daily role, and are flexible, helping me to manage my workloads with the demands of studying for the qualification.

The day to day life of an accountant is always changing with a variety of clients available to work with, from small sole traders to larger limited companies and everything in between. There is always a new challenge to overcome and with the help of fellow trainees and skilled colleagues I have found that my personal development has been rapid. The Chartered Programme is ideal for anyone who wishes to progress their career alongside fellow skilled individuals, with a strong work ethic you will be able to move forward and develop your skill set."
