Legal Services Act - One Year On

Following on from our hugely successful seminar with Andy Poole, Professor Stephen Mayson and Stuart Bushell in November 2011, The Leeds Law Society are delighted to present a follow up seminar on developments in the legal profession approximately one year on from the effective implementation of The Legal Services Act.

8.30am Andy Poole, Armstrong Watson;

Andy has specialised exclusively in the legal sector since 2004. He provides strategic advice to lawyers in addition to accounting compliance. Andy speaks at national solicitor conferences and is a regular contributor to the legal press. Andy will review the specific developments in the last year covering new entrants; alliances; responses from law firms; and ABS applications.

8.45am Michael Napier CBE QC LLD;

Michael, formerly the Senior Partner at Irwin Mitchell and now a consultant in the business of law, is recognised as one of the most creative and innovative lawyers of his generation. Michael will cover:
Business Structures – Why all this change? Whose interests? Is the partnership model out dated? Is an ABS the answer? Why share profits with non lawyers? Is external investment attractive? What are the external investment options?
Access to Justice – Funding options post April; Damages based agreements; Conditional Fee Agreements; Third party Litigation Funding; QOCS; Budgeting and proportionality.

9.30am Jon Busby, Epoq;

Epoq is an established supplier of online legal document and assistance services which are provided to a number of banks and insurers on a white-labelled basis, as well as to law firms. Jon will share some of his experiences and observations when talking about technology to lawyers. He will explain how technology could be utilised to put lawyers in the role they were trained to do; providing real solutions to people with real problems, particularly with reference to technology used by the new entrants.
