Strategic Business Advice for Law Firms (Advance)

Working ON your business, not just IN it

Many law firm partners reach a point where they are consumed by daily client work and crisis management. While the firm may be busy, a lack of clear strategic direction often leads to stagnant growth, partner frustration, and operational inefficiencies. To break this cycle, business owners need to step back and implement a structured plan.

As the only accountancy firm working in partnership with the Law Society, we designed the Advance programme specifically to solve this problem. Advance is our premier strategic business advice service, providing the framework, external challenge, and accountability required to help your law firm flourish.

The five building blocks of the Advance programme

Our unique, tailored advisory programme focuses on five fundamental building blocks that must be aligned for a legal practice to succeed:

  • Vision: We help your leadership team agree on exactly where the firm is now, what you want to achieve, and the key hurdles you must overcome.
  • People: Ensuring you have the right people in the right roles, with clear succession plans and skill-sets aligned to your growth targets.
  • Process: Documenting and refining how work is delivered—from client onboarding to billing—ensuring consistency, reducing risk, and making the best use of legal technology.
  • Data: Agreeing on the specific Management Information (MI) and KPIs that allow performance to be measured and behaviours to be corrected quickly.
  • Management Structure: Creating a robust governance framework to monitor progress, allocate actions, and hold individuals accountable.

How the programme works

The Advance journey begins with a full-day, intensive consulting session. Facilitated by our legal sector specialists—who are also founding partners of Law Firm Ambition—we take your board off-site to strip back the business and build your core Vision.

Following this, we don't just leave you with a report. We provide ongoing Board Support, attending quarterly management meetings to hold your plan to account, critique performance, and facilitate strategic direction. We act as your external sounding board, ensuring the momentum generated in the planning phase translates into tangible financial results.

Transparent investment

Strategic advice should deliver a clear return on investment through improved efficiency and higher profitability. We provide a bespoke, fixed-fee proposal for the initial Advance Vision day and subsequent quarterly Board Support, ensuring you have total fee certainty as you invest in your firm’s future.
