Armstrong Watson Accountants’ Dumfries Partner, Douglas Russell, will embark on the walk of a lifetime as he battles against the Arctic elements in aid of Scottish secondary breast cancer charity Make 2nds Count.

Dougie will begin his journey on 28th February, travelling to Rovaniemi in Finland before spending the next 3 days trekking 65km deep into the Arctic Circle.

The expedition is not for the fainthearted, with thick snow, frozen lakes and temperatures expected to drop as low as -30 degrees Celsius. Dougie and his fellow fundraisers will also have to pull behind them their pulk, stacked with all the equipment needed for camping out – and surviving – the bitter arctic wilderness.

This exciting and challenging adventure, whilst an experience of a lifetime, is importantly all about raising vital funds for a charity very close to Dougie’s heart, commenting on the trek, Dougie said,

“Make 2nds Count was set up by my good friend Richard Cook’s stepdaughter, Lisa Fleming, after she was diagnosed with secondary breast cancer in May 2017. The charity raises funds to invest in valuable research to help to find a cure for this currently incurable disease.

“When Richard asked me if I’d like to join him on this mission my initial trepidation was soon pushed aside and replaced with a drive and motivation to raise as much money as possible for this very important cause.”

Good Luck Dougie!

Make 2nds Count

Make 2nds Count was set up by Lisa Fleming after she was diagnosed with secondary breast cancer in May 2017.  The charity raises funds which are donated solely into the research of secondary breast cancer in an attempt to find a cure to this currently incurable disease.

Secondary breast cancer is breast cancer which has spread from the breast to other parts of the body. Although secondary breast cancer can be treated, there is no cure. Unlike those living with primary breast cancer, there is no end of treatment, there is no remission. It’s estimated that 35,000 people are currently living with secondary breast cancer in the UK yet only 7% of the National funding for cancer goes towards this incurable disease. Make 2nds Count aim to address this imbalance.
