Armstrong Watson has welcomed a highly experienced adviser to its esteemed financial planning team.

David Firth has taken up his new role at the firm’s Leeds office and brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise, having worked in the financial services industry for more than 30 years  - 25 of which have been dedicated to providing financial advice.

A Chartered Associate of the London Institute of Banking and Finance, David serves clients in the West and South Yorkshire region, and will also support clients across the wider business, offering tailored advice on all aspects of both individual and corporate financial planning. His expertise spans a wide range of areas including investments, retirement planning, inheritance tax planning, company pensions and business protection.

Before joining Armstrong Watson, David built a financial planning practice for Harris + Co Chartered Accountants in Barnsley and has also worked for RSM Tenon and with Tilney and Barclays Wealth. His career spans both IFA and restricted advice environments, having worked in the banking sector before moving into accountancy, which gives him a broad perspective on the advice landscape.

David’s approach is centred on delivering clear, client-focused advice that is easy to understand and he is committed to helping clients navigate complex financial matters with confidence. He said: “I aim to deliver added value to Armstrong Watson clients through tailored, comprehensive financial planning. I believe we have a duty of care to guide our clients through evolving market conditions and regulatory changes, helping them stay on course toward achieving their financial goals.

“A key focus of my work has been integrating tax planning within the financial planning process. This holistic approach not only enhances the quality of advice but also supports clients in achieving their objectives in the most efficient and effective manner.”

Martyn Pottage, Regional Financial Planning Manager, said: “We are delighted to welcome David to Armstrong Watson, and I believe his extensive experience and client-focused approach will complement our existing team perfectly. His appointment will enhance our ability to provide comprehensive financial advice to business owners alongside individuals and families with private wealth. I am looking forward to seeing the positive impact that David will no doubt bring to our clients and colleagues.”

David’s appointment comes after Armstrong Watson’s financial planning consultants once again gained national recognition, with 16 advisers across the business named in The Times’ 2025 Guide To The UK’s Top Rated Financial Advisers, based on positive client reviews from VouchedFor.co.uk. It also follows the acquisition of Glasgow-based Martin Aitken Accounting, Tax and Finance, which saw 12 colleagues join the financial planning arm of the business.
