Charmaine Richards

Charmaine is a VAT & Indirect Tax Senior Manager with more than 13 years’ experience in VAT and indirect taxes.

Starting her career with HMRC in 2009, Charmaine worked in investigations before moving into VAT five years later as a Visiting Officer, specialising in alcohol and missing trade fraud. As a Large Business VAT Specialist from 2017, Charmaine advised some of the UK's largest businesses across a range of sectors, including pharmaceuticals, retail, energy, construction, and land and property. During her time at HMRC, she helped businesses navigate complex VAT issues, manage risk, and meet their compliance obligations.

In 2023, Charmaine moved into professional services, where she advises a diverse portfolio of clients, from owner-managed businesses to large multinational groups. She provides practical, commercially focused VAT advice across a broad range of technical and operational matters, helping clients manage risk and meet their obligations with confidence.

Passionate about resolving VAT challenges, Charmaine takes the time to understand each client's business, operations and objectives, delivering clear and pragmatic solutions tailored to their needs. Her goal is to help businesses achieve certainty in their VAT position while identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and compliance.
