Multiple Gold Medallist Celebrates Yorkshire Family Business at Skipton’s Broughton Hall

World and Paralympic Champion Cyclist, Jody Cundy OBE, joined renowned local business leaders, Gordon Black CBE, of Black Family Investments, and Tim Dewey CEO of Timothy Taylor at a Family Business Networking Lunch held at Broughton Hall, Skipton.

The event, hosted by Armstrong Watson Accountants, Business and Financial Advisers, Gordons Solicitors and HSBC, brought together family business figureheads from across the region for this unique opportunity to listen to the insight and experiences of prominent business leaders and to hear inspirational stories.

Gordon Black CBE, formerly of Perter Black Holdings and major supplier to the UK’s retail industry, gave a passionate speech lamenting changing ethical shift in manufacturing and spoke of his belief that good business practice is enlightened self-interest.

Tim Dewey is the first non-family member to run the long established Keighley brewery, Timothy Taylor, having worked with some of the world’s best known drinks brands, and spoke of his experience of family businesses, their uniqueness and diversity.

Jody Cundy OBE, concluded the event by providing an inspirational speech on sustained elite performance, re-invention – having competed as both a swimmer and cyclist – and the power of ambition and drive for success.

Commenting David Richmond, Partner with co-hosts Armstrong Watson said,

“The event was a great success, allowing local family business owners to share their experiences with others in the relaxed surrounding of Broughton Hall.

The opportunity to hear 3 highly knowledgeable speakers, each with their own angle on their challenges and experiences added to the event. The overwhelming message was that the issues faced by family businesses are not unique to each business.”
