Investing in young people with our annual AAT/ATT recruitment programme

Despite the pressures of the COVID-19 pandemic, we are continuing our commitment to investing in young people and has launched its annual recruitment process to find the industry’s next rising stars.

We are looking to make 11 new hires through our AAT/ATT apprenticeship programmes. The new recruits will join our Accounting teams based in Cumbria and Yorkshire and will receive hands on experience alongside classroom study as they work towards their qualifications.

Talent Acquisition Partner David Ramsay: said: “At a time when it would be very easy to slow down recruitment of roles at this level, Armstrong Watson is continuing to recruit. Despite a challenging 12 months for all sectors, it is vital that we continue to invest in the next generation of accountants and advisers to enable us to support our clients into the future.

“We have a long history of growing our own talent and those who join us will not only have the opportunity to become future business leaders, but as a top 30 UK firm, they will work at the cutting edge of legislative and technical changes in accounting.”

Last year more than 300 applications were received for the positions available. This year we have selected 10 AAT trainees and one ATT trainee across the business.

The AAT qualification focuses on accounts preparation, VAT book-keeping and accounts reporting, whereas the ATT qualification focuses mainly on tax computations. Over the three-year course, trainees will be equipped with invaluable skills and experience to set them up for a successful career. There is also the opportunity to progress to become a chartered accountant through the ACA qualification.

With an entry criteria of having already achieved, or be predicted to achieve, at least 5 GCSEs graded A*-C / 9-4, including maths and English, applications are open to everyone. While most come from school leavers, David says applications from older candidates looking to retrain are also welcome.

We are proud to be been named by the Association of Accounting Technicians, as one of the 'top five firms in the UK in which to kick start your accountancy career' in 2018. In 2020, the firm was hailed for its “commitment to staff training and development at all levels” when it scooped Mid-Tier Firm of the Year at the Yorkshire Accountancy Awards.

Applications are now open and the closing date is Friday 21st May 2021
