A new face in Carlisle to support farming businesses through uncertain times

Armstrong Watson is delighted to announce that Jonathan York has relocated to join the agricultural team in Carlisle, bringing with him over 20 years’ experience in working with farmers and supporting them in their businesses.

Jonathan’s knowledge will be invaluable in supporting farming clients across Cumbria on a wide range of subjects, with a strong background in IHT, tax planning and securing business property reliefs he is well used to bringing the right advice for agricultural clients.

The move to the area strengthens Armstrong Watson’s already experienced team and bolsters the advice they are able to offer North Cumbria’s farmers.

Jonathan York comments:

My passion for Agriculture comes from my Grandad who was raised in Norfolk. The family worked on the land and his love of farming and the countryside was something that was a big part of my childhood. I have acted for farmers throughout my career with AW and am delighted to be joining the team in our Rosehill office.

Agriculture is becoming an increasingly complex environment and with uncertainty ahead of us around profitability, Brexit and the potential that has to change subsidies and farming in the UK from 2019 onwards, it’s now more important than ever for us to listen to the needs of our farming clients and help and support them through all of that.

Farming can be a bit of a rollercoaster with lamb and beef prices fluctuating so much and milk prices doing the same, farmers could be facing 18 months of hardship and uncertainty. I’m passionate about supporting farmers through that and by understanding the financial picture, careful tax planning and the right strategic advice, I’m confident we can help our clients through it. I’m delighted that I’m relocating to Carlisle and am looking forward to nurturing strong relationships and am dedicated to our clients for the next 20 years and beyond. ’
